Brahmandadolage arasinodalu |

🎵 Kannada Lyrics

🌸 English Meaning

Sometimes, by Your divine play, I am seated on elephants and horses,
Sometimes, by Your will, I walk with bare feet.
Sometimes You feed me rich, luxurious meals,
At other times, You keep me in deep fasting.
This mysterious play of life—only You understand it,
O Purandara Vittala, eternal protector of us all. ||1||

Search across the universe,
But You reside right in our own town.
The King of all beauties is always present—
Still and silent in His glory. ||2||

There’s no birth or death there,
No pain of hunger.
No brothers or sons exist there,
No arguments or doubts arise. ||3||

There is no sleep, no disease or affliction,
No petty-minded people—
Only the One who reclines upon the ocean,
Who knows everything. ||4||

In the company of the virtuous,
We make efforts for liberation.
And Madhava, the beloved Vittala of Purandara,
Graciously accepts them all. ||5||

🪔 Reflection

This ugabhoga by Purandara Dasa gently lays out the truth of life’s changing nature—sometimes grand, sometimes bare—and reminds us that the deeper mystery lies in divine will. Whether we experience luxury or scarcity, joy or fasting, the Lord alone knows the deeper meaning of these shifts. The first verse reflects surrender, acknowledging that we are not the doers—He is.

The following verses elevate the discourse beyond worldly life. Purandara Dasa speaks of a divine realm beyond time and dualities—where there is no death, hunger, or sorrow, and where God resides not in some distant heaven but here, amidst us, in the simplest of settings. It's a deeply reassuring vision that reminds us of divinity within reach.

The final verse beautifully calls out the path to liberation—satsanga and sincere effort. It is not through renunciation alone but through heartfelt striving and divine grace that we move toward moksha. Purandara’s words are simple but pierce through illusion. They do not moralize but inspire. A devotee reads this and feels: "Yes, let me be in His shelter, whatever life brings." A soft surrender with powerful faith.
