🌸 English Meaning:
No one keeps count of good or bad deeds; life flows as freely and purely as the waters of the Ganga. ||1||
We have no attachments or desires—we are like the gentle pollen of flowers, carried by the wind. ||2||
We have no fixed name or form; our true nature is vast and open, like the blue sky or a wisp of incense. ||3||
Just as flowers offered in worship complete their purpose, death too becomes a sacred offering—pure and beautiful. ||4||
📜 Historical note: The music for this bhajan was composed and sung by Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, a major 20th-century Hindustani vocalist and composer who helped revive Marathi musical theatre and blended classical and devotional idioms. The lyricist credited for the poem is Ba. Bha. Borkar (Ba. Bh. Borkar).
🪔 Reflection :
This bhajan teaches that true spirituality is not about counting good and bad deeds, but about surrendering with a pure heart. The image of the Ganga reminds us that cleansing happens within, not through moral calculations. When the poet says “we are not name or form,” it means that our real nature is vast and boundless—like the open sky or the soft glow of incense. The verse about flowers and death reminds us that all outer rituals are temporary; what truly matters is the purity that remains when everything else fades.
In simple terms, the song invites us to live lightly—to let go of pride, possessions, and even fixed identities. It shows that devotion is not about doing more, but about being more open and gentle. In daily life, it could mean speaking with kindness, helping without expecting praise, or facing challenges calmly. How does this message speak to you? What part of this bhajan reflects your own journey?

Lyrics: Jagadguru Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal
O Lord who travels on Garuda,
May your lotus feet always shine in my mind.
May your divine presence remain in my heart forever.
O Lord, please remove my suffering,
Please remove my sins.
O lotus-eyed Lord, praised by the gods,
Your divine feet are worshipped by the wise.
O Lord, remove my suffering,
Remove my sins.
O Lord who reclines on the cosmic serpent,
Creator and source of love itself,
You free us from the fear of birth and death.
O Lord, remove my suffering,
Remove my sins.
O bearer of the conch and discus,
Destroyer of evil forces,
You are the refuge of all the worlds.
O Lord, remove my suffering,
Remove my sins.
O Lord of countless virtues,
Protector of those who have no shelter,
Destroyer of the enemies of the gods.
O Lord, remove my suffering,
Remove my sins.
Out of great compassion,
Please protect your devotee Bharati Tirtha.
O Lord, remove my suffering,
Remove my sins.
This beautiful Sanskrit prayer composed by Jagadguru Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal, the revered Shankaracharya of Sringeri, carries the essence of pure surrender. Every line is simple yet deeply powerful. The devotee does not ask for wealth, success, or worldly comfort. The prayer asks only two things — “Remove my suffering” and “Remove my sins.” In spiritual life, this is a profound realization. When the heart becomes pure, everything else naturally falls into place.
The song praises the many forms of Lord Vishnu — the Garuda-rider, the serpent-resting Lord, the bearer of the conch and discus, and the protector of the universe. Yet the tone remains humble and intimate. The devotee simply longs for the Lord’s lotus feet to stay in the mind forever.
This raises a gentle question for us. In our busy lives, how often does our mind rest on something sacred? What would happen if even a small part of our daily thoughts turned toward the divine?
Bhakti poetry reminds us that devotion does not require complicated philosophy. A sincere heart, a humble prayer, and remembrance of the Lord are enough. When the mind learns to rest at the divine feet, fear slowly fades, and life begins to feel lighter, calmer, and more meaningful.
