🌸 English Meaning

Which is the path to Vaikuntha, O Lord?
Please show me the way.
Show me the path, O support of all existence,
So that I may reach Your sacred feet.

Lost in the darkness of repeated worldly experiences, trembling with fear,
I wander exhausted, unable to find the way.
O Narayana, reveal the shining path to me. ||1||

Because of the sins committed in earlier times, karma clings to me.
Yet even so, I now remember You alone.
O Sripati, protect me, O king among gods, Narayana. ||2||

Let me not be born again upon this earth; let me become only Your servant.
O Purandara Vittala, who reclines on the serpent,
Grant that I may not take birth again, O my Narayana. ||3||

🪔 Reflection

Purandaradasaru, known as the Pitamaha of Carnatic music, speaks in this song not as a great saint far removed from life, but as a simple human being who feels tired and unsure. His words come from real experience—fear, confusion, and the pain of going through the same struggles again and again. Vaikuntha is not described as a distant heaven somewhere beyond this world, but as a peaceful state that is reached by holding firmly to the Lord’s feet. The “path” he asks for is not book knowledge or complex rituals, but clear guidance that comes from humility and remembering God at all times.

What touches the heart most is his honesty. Purandaradasa openly admits that his past actions still weigh on him and that his spirit feels worn out. Yet there is no complaint or despair. Instead, he turns to Narayana with the trust of a child who knows where safety lies. Through this, the song teaches a quiet but powerful truth: when life feels dark and confusing, remembering the Divine itself becomes the light that shows the way. Freedom here is not about escaping the world, but about finding one’s true place in it—as a servant living under divine care. When confusion arises, where do you turn for direction? This song softly reminds us that true surrender is not losing strength, but finding our way back home.
