🌸 English Meaning:

O Tulasi, the sacred one! You have turned Brindavana itself into a temple, O Lakshmi of divine beauty. You are beloved to Mukunda, the son of Nanda.

The scriptures proclaim that Lord Hari resides in the grove of Tulasi. By merely seeing you, all sins vanish. Touching you purifies the body, and remembering you fulfills all desires and brings peace to life. ||1||

Applying sacred earth from your roots sanctifies one across all three worlds. The one who wears your garland is shown the path to liberation. All accumulated sins of many lifetimes are destroyed, and even the messengers of death cannot approach, for you bestow the play of eternal bliss. ||2||

O Tulasi, revered as Varalakshmi on earth, you never forget the virtuous. You destroy the sins of devoted souls and grant them purity. You bless your devotees with wealth, progeny, and joy, and most of all, you give remembrance of the lotus feet of Purandara Vittala. ||3||

🪔 Reflection:

This bhajan is traditionally sung during Tulasi Pooja, when devotees lovingly remember Shri Tulasi Devi, the sacred plant that symbolizes purity, devotion, and divine grace. As we celebrate Tulasi Pooja on Uttana Dwadashi ie 12th day of Karthik Shukla as per Hindu Panchang tha falls on today, it is fitting that we reflect on her significance — the divine consort of Lord Vishnu, who brings auspiciousness and sanctity to every home where she is worshipped.

Purandara Dasaru, known as the “Father of Carnatic Music,” uses simple yet profound words to remind us that devotion can make even an ordinary home a Brindavan. Tulasi’s very presence is said to purify surroundings, her touch removes negativity, and her remembrance guides us toward inner peace and liberation. Wearing her garland is symbolic of keeping divinity close to one’s heart.

In today’s world, where our minds are often restless and distracted, Tulasi teaches a timeless lesson—purity of thought, speech, and action leads to peace. How does this apply to your daily life? Can the small act of watering the Tulasi plant each morning remind us of gratitude and mindfulness? What are your learnings from this sacred song? Let this Tulasi Pooja renew your spirit and fill your heart with devotion and calm. 🌿
