English Meaning
Chant the sacred name of Rama again and again!
Let go of lust and anger, again and again, O noble one!

Clasp the feet of your Guru tightly,
Adorn your head with the sanctified offerings of Hari.
Again and again, call upon Him—
Let the knots of worldly bondage be cut loose,
Strike down every misfortune and pain!

Seek the company of the virtuous, again and again,
Break ties with the wicked, without hesitation.
Behold Him who steered Arjuna’s chariot—
Fix your mind in Hari's devotion, firmly and fully!

Follow the one who grants boons to the mighty elephant kings,
Strive hard to free yourself from worldly toil.
Let not our protector Bhīmeśa remain distant—
Go and unite with Purandara Viṭṭhala, our eternal refuge!

Abstract
This bhajan by Purandara Dasaru resonates like an urgent, compassionate whisper from the divine: "Speak the name of Rama; leave behind anger and desire." In its lyrical rhythm, it gently peels away our worldly entanglements, urging us to grasp the Guru’s feet, to wear God’s blessings like a crown, and to strike down the illusions and miseries that bind us. The poet implores us to choose holy company over destructive influence, to observe the Lord who guided Arjuna, and to anchor our restless minds in the joy of Haribhajana.

Each stanza is a step toward freedom, painting devotion not as a passive retreat but an active, transformative pursuit. The final verse swells with yearning and surrender—asking us to approach the compassionate Viṭṭhala who removes burdens and grants strength like Bhīma. In a world filled with noise and distraction, this bhajan becomes a spiritual roadmap: reminding us that peace is not found by escaping life, but by aligning every breath with the divine.

English Meaning

Chorus: O little bird, sing "Govinda Govinda"—may your heart dwell always on the Lord!

Remembering Keshava removes all suffering. Meditating on Narayana removes fear of hell.
Thinking of Madhava grants cherished desires. With Govinda's grace, miseries vanish.
Without devotion to Vishnu, how can one attain a Vaishnava birth? Meditation on Madhusudana brings great merit.
Trivikrama’s memory sanctifies like the Gayatri mantra. Vamana blesses us with divine boons.

Reflecting on Sridhara brings wealth. Dhyana on Hrishikesha purifies the heart.
Padmanabha protects and sustains us. Damodara frees us from ignorance and ego.
Sankarshana blesses with progeny. Vasudeva uplifts the lineage.
Pradyumna grants the merit of circumambulating the earth. Aniruddha’s service sanctifies us.

Recognize Purushottama as the primordial being. Adhokshaja is our foundation.
Narasimha is our family deity. Achyuta, united with Lakshmi, is bliss incarnate.
Janardana is supreme in the universe. Upendra forgives all our faults.
Nothing on earth compares to the nectar of Hari's name. Sri Krishna, the Lord of Rangas, is realized by the wise.

Those who sing like this bird will attain joy here and beyond. They become a guiding star on earth.
O mind, never forget to meditate on Hayavadana’s feet. His feet are our eternal refuge.

Reflective Commentary

Once Sri Vadirajaru visited Andhra, and heard a folk song called ‘gubellu’ in which people sing and clap in a circle. He decided to adapt that and created the song “Gubbiyalo gubbiyalo gubbiyalo Govinda,” which includes the 24 names of the Lord and how to worship Him. He even used the shobane songs sung at weddings like the Lakshmi Swayamvara song. Another song “Kolu Kolenna Kole” for instance spoke about the Dashavataras. The repetition of "Gubbiyāḷo" is both poetic and philosophical—reminding us to stay joyful and light-hearted while constantly chanting the Lord’s name. As we sing with devotion, we too can transcend fear, karma, and ego, just as the bird soars free in the sky.

English Meaning

Our trade is now fixed—
The service of the Lord’s lotus feet!

His grace is our garment,
The Guru’s grace our sacred thread,
The mercy of the saints our protective shawl.
Even the worst sinners, trampling on their past misdeeds,
Now walk fearlessly over the hearts of the wicked.

The heart is a white paper,
The tongue a divine pen,
The lips the inkpot.
With devotion, we write the Lord’s glorious stories,
His divine names upon our minds,
And offer them to Him in surrender.

No more fear of future sorrows,
No more debts of past karmas—
He has cleared them all,
Paid every dues,
And freed us forever.

Every word now brings tears of joy,
Every step, divine chills.
He has written us a permanent receipt—
The final wage? Liberation itself!

No more begging before men,
No more bowing to worldly pride.
Purandara Vittala, the lotus-eyed Lord,
Has disciplined me,
Accepted my offering,
And placed me firmly in His service.

Reflections:  This beautiful Purandara Dasa bhajan feels like waking up to a life-changing realization - that serving God's lotus feet is the only business worth doing, where divine grace becomes your protective cloak, the guru's blessings your armor, and even your ordinary tongue transforms into a pen to write the Lord's glories on the blank page of your heart; what's most remarkable is how it speaks to all of us sinners, saying no past is too dark when touched by devotion, and in that moment of surrender, you're not just accepted but claimed - like God stamps your soul with liberation, settling all your karmic debts, turning your fearful begging into joyful belonging, making this not just a song but an invitation to trade empty worldly struggles for the ultimate security of divine love.

We are encouraged to let go of pride, anger, and ego, and instead stay close to peace, good company, and the teachings of our Guru.

Every verse is like gentle advice from a wise friend—stay content, treat praise and blame equally, and always remember the Lord with love. The song ends by placing everything in the hands of Purandara Vittala, not just as a deity, but lovingly as our own father. It’s not just a song to sing, but one to live by.

Come, O Murari! O charming child Shouri,
Essence of wisdom, source of joy!

Come play, O dust-covered one!
Come dine, O merciful Krishna!

With crimson lotus feet and beautiful ornaments,

O Venkataramana, remover of distress,
Revered by divine servants and sages alike,

Lotus-eyed One, with a face like the autumn moon,
You dwell in the hearts of the wise, O glorious Hayavadana.

Reflection

This lyrical composition by Shri Vadirajaru is a tender invitation to Lord Krishna. It captures the innocent yearning of a devotee who wants Krishna, the divine child and supreme being, to come home—play, eat, smile, and bless. Vadiraja paints Krishna not only as a playful cowherd but also as the mighty Venkataramana, the compassionate Hayavadana, and the eternal Chinmaya (pure consciousness). The imagery moves from sweet domestic scenes to cosmic divinity, blending bhakti (devotion) with Vedantic insight.
