रम्य ही स्वर्गाहूनी लंका
हिच्या किर्तीचा सागर लहरी, नादविती डंका
सुवर्णकमला परी ही नगरी
फुलून दरवळे निळ्या सागरी
त्या कमलावर चंद्र निजकरे, किरतो अभिषेका
लक्ष्मी लंका दोघी भगिनी
उभय उपजल्या या जलधितूनी
या लंकेचे दासीपद तरी, कमला घेईल का ?
English Transliteration:
Ramya hī svargāhūnī Laṅkā
Hichyā kīrtīchā sāgara laharī, nādavitī ḍaṅkā ॥1॥
Suvarṇakamalā parī hī nagarī
Phulūn daravaḷe niḷyā sāgarī ॥
Tyā kamalāvar candra nijakarē, kiratō abhiṣēkā ॥2॥
Lakṣmī Laṅkā doghī bhaginī
Ubhaya upajalyā yā jaladhitūnī ॥
Yā Laṅkēcē dāsīpad tarī, Kamalā ghē'īla kā? ॥3॥
English Meaning:
Lanka is more enchanting than heaven itself—
Her fame rises and spreads like waves upon the ocean, echoing loudly across realms!
She shines like a golden lotus blooming in the sapphire sea—
Upon that lotus, even the moon lies asleep, showering it with its gentle glow like a ritual offering.
Lakshmi and Lanka are like twin sisters,
Both born of the same vast ocean—
But will the divine Lakshmi ever accept servitude under Lanka's reign?
Reflective Interpretation:
This evocative Marathi bhajan draws a poetic contrast between the grandeur of Lanka and the divine elegance of Goddess Lakshmi. At first glance, Lanka seems to rival heaven, portrayed as a radiant golden lotus amidst the deep blue sea—a place so magnificent that even the moon bows to it.
