Ninnane nambide neeraja nayana |

 📜 Original Kannada Lyrics:

Lyrics: Purandaradasa

🌸 English Meaning:

I have placed my complete faith in You, O lotus-eyed Lord,
O consort of Lakshmi, please protect me.

When Ahalya was cursed by Sage Gautama and lay as a stone on the path,
Your sacred feet touched her and restored her purity and dignity.
Hearing how You protect and uplift devotees, I surrender to You. ||1||

When young Dhruva was rejected and sent away by his stepmother,
He performed deep penance thinking only of You.
You blessed him with an eternal place among the stars—
Hearing this, I seek Your grace. ||2||

To protect the righteous across all worlds,
You descended from Vaikuntha with Lakshmi,
And stood upon the sacred hills of Sheshachala,
O compassionate Purandara Vittala, I have heard of Your mercy. ||3||

🪔 Reflection:

This beautiful composition by Purandaradasa carries a simple yet powerful message—faith rooted in divine stories becomes unshakable devotion. The composer recalls episodes like Ahalya’s redemption and Dhruva’s determination,  as living reminders that grace is always available to those who turn inward with sincerity. Purandaradasa, often called the father of Carnatic music, used such songs to bring deep philosophy into the hearts of common people in the most accessible way.

The song gently asks us: Do we trust the divine as completely as Dhruva did? Do we believe transformation is possible, even after our mistakes, like Ahalya? In our daily struggles, we often rely on our own strength, forgetting the quiet power of surrender. This bhajan invites us to pause and shift that reliance—to place it in something higher, compassionate, and eternal.

When we truly “nambide” (trust), life becomes lighter. Worries soften, and the heart finds rest. The Lord who stood for Dhruva and uplifted Ahalya continues to stand for us too—silently, patiently, waiting for that one moment of complete surrender. 🙏
