🌸 English Meaning:

O moon-crested Shiva, beloved of Parvati, we bow to You again and again.
You who hold the deer, carry the bow Pinaka, and bear the Ganga upon Your head,
Clad in elephant skin — our salutations to You.

You dwell on the southern banks of the sacred Kaveri.
You wear sacred ash and rudraksha beads.
You hold the veena in Your hand.
You are the beloved of Sri Purandara Vitthala. ||3||

🪔 Reflection:

Sri Purandaradasa, the great saint of Karnataka and father of Carnatic music, shows us something beautiful in this song. Though he is a devotee of Vitthala, he sings with deep love for Shiva. This teaches us that true devotion has no boundaries. God may have many forms, but the heart that loves sees only oneness.

When Purandaradasa says Shiva is dear to Purandara Vitthala, he reminds us that there is no division between Shiva and Vishnu. In our lives too, do we create divisions where there need not be any? Can we see unity where we now see difference?

This bhajan softly invites us to move beyond labels and arguments. It asks us to grow in love, simplicity, and acceptance. When devotion becomes pure, the heart becomes peaceful. And in that peace, we feel that the Divine — in any form — is very close to us.
