🌸 English Meaning:

Two eyes are not enough, O Lakshmi, to behold your beauty.
The tongue itself fails, O Mother, to sing and praise your glory.
In what emotion, in what raga, could I even attempt to sing your praise?

O bestower of boons, O compassionate Goddess,
Worshipped by the celestials, residing in Karaveerapura,
Remover of sins, destroyer of worldly fears,
Bearer of auspiciousness, O Narayani. ||1||

With serpent as adornment, seated upon a lotus, O Queen of Hari,
Holding lotus and mace, filled with supreme virtues,
O Indira-eyed one, moon-faced beauty,
Unparalleled enchantress, O Narayani. ||2||

You are Lakshmi, the giver of true wealth,
Dwelling upon this earth to protect the meek,
Dispeller of distress, beloved consort of Venkatesha,
Compassionate and ever devoted, O Narayani. ||3||

🪔 Reflection:
This soulful composition in praise of Goddess Lakshmi, attributed to Dr. Jayashree Aravind and sung in the melodious voice of S. Janaki, captures the essence of bhakti where words and senses fall short. The devotee admits that even two eyes are insufficient to behold the beauty of the Mother, and the tongue falters in singing her praise—pointing to the divine truth that the Goddess is beyond measure, beyond form, and beyond worldly description. Historically, Lakshmi has been revered as the embodiment of compassion, abundance, and protection. Her temples, especially in Karaveerapura (modern Kolhapur Mahalakshmi), are living symbols of her grace.

This bhajan reminds us that true wealth is not merely gold or possessions, but the protection, compassion, and grace of the Divine Mother who removes the sufferings of her children. In a world where we constantly seek prosperity, this song beautifully shifts our gaze—prosperity without grace is hollow, but with her blessings, even the smallest offering becomes eternal joy. Listening to this bhajan softens the heart and awakens the realization that Lakshmi is not just the goddess of fortune but the Mother who stands with us in every sorrow, every struggle, and every prayer. 🙏
