🌸 English Meaning:
Krishna, the one who fills the world, with countless divine deeds,
He breaks the pride of arrogant ones, and uplifts His one-pointed devotees.
At the Rajasūya sacrifice, when all kings were assembled,
It was Dharma’s son Yudhishthira who rightly chose Krishna for the highest honor. ||1||
Among all rulers, with unmatched valor, Yadava Krishna stood supreme,
Rukmini, with overflowing love, chose Him as her true husband and placed the garland. ||2||
The foolish Paundraka, claiming himself as Vasudeva,
Met his end at the hands of Krishna, who severed his head. ||3||
When the weapon entered Uttara’s womb,
Krishna protected the unborn Parikshit with His discus. ||4||
Standing tall in Udupi, pleasing His devotees,
Krishna shines forth with His mighty glory as Hayavadana, ever gracious. ||5||
🪔 Reflection:
This bhajan by Sri Vadirajaru (1480–1600 CE), one of the great saints of the Dvaita tradition, highlights episodes where Krishna reveals His supremacy and protection of devotees. Vadirajaru was a direct successor in the Madhva sampradaya and a prolific composer whose works blend philosophy with devotion. In this kriti, he recalls Krishna’s acts: being honored above all kings at Yudhishthira’s Rajasūya, chosen by Rukmini as her eternal consort, slaying false claimants like Paundraka, saving Parikshit in the womb, and standing resplendent as Udupi Krishna for His devotees.
The message is profound—Krishna is not bound by time or place; His glory flows from Dwaraka to Udupi, from ancient sacrifices to the devotee’s present prayer. For the seeker, this bhajan becomes a reminder that God alone is the true protector. Our pride, delusion, and false identities are cut down, just as Paundraka’s were, while sincere devotion ensures divine grace, just as Parikshit was shielded. Singing such verses connects us to a lineage of saints who saw in Krishna not just stories of the past, but living proof that the Lord still stands in Udupi, blessing all who seek Him with pure hearts. 🙏
