📜 Original Kannada Lyrics

🌸 English Meaning

Your body belongs to You, my Lord, and this entire life too is Yours.

Each day’s joys and sorrows—every rise and fall—are Yours alone, O Lord.
The stories we hear from sacred Vedas, Puranas, and scriptures—all belong to You.
Even the beauty of enchanting forms that the eyes long to behold is Yours and Yours alone. ||1||

The perfumes of sandal and musk we apply—these too are Yours.
The tongue that delights in the six tastes, craving flavors and pleasures—its longing is Yours. ||2||

This body caught in the net of Maya, and the five senses that bind it—these are also Yours.
O Keshava! Without You, humans are powerless; only by Your will do we act. ||3||

🪔 Reflection

Kanakadasa, the 16th-century saint-poet, often sang of the human ego dissolving before the vastness of the Divine. In this song, he gently reminds us that everything we call “mine”—the body, senses, pleasures, worries, even our impulses—are but instruments in the hands of the Lord. His message is not pessimistic; it is liberating. When one sees the world as divine play, burdens lighten and gratitude grows. The saint subtly asks: If every sense and every desire functions through the Lord’s power, why cling to the illusion of control? And another question lingers: What happens to our sorrow when we recognise that even it belongs to Him?

Kanakadasa’s life—spent in devotion despite social barriers—makes this teaching powerful. His surrender was not weakness but inner strength. To meditate on this song is to gently loosen the grip of possessiveness and invite the humility that leads to peace. One step at a time, it turns daily living into a quiet offering to the Lord.
